The William Schatzkamer Young Artist Competition

Willie Schatzkamer

Maestro Schatzkamer, the conductor for the first 35 years of this orchestra, had a vision. He wanted to establish the premier place where musicians came to play during the off season of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. He envisioned a place where young talent would find an open reception to their budding skills where they would be inspired to reach for excellence in their craft.

Annual Events

Each year we invite young artists to compete for the opportunity to perform with us. A panel of our orchestra members selects a winner. The winner receives a $500.00 scholarship graciously given by the Kirkwood Optimists Club.
